Abstract:To determine the effect of Polygenetic cyrtonema extract on preservation of apple fruits during the postharvest period, fruits of ‘Golden Delicious’ were submerged in the 12.5 g·L-1 Polygenetic cyrtonema extract solution. After the treated fruits were stored at (24.0±2.0)℃ for 21 days, the fruit decay rate and weight loss, the contents of titratable acids, vitamin C, soluble sugar, and MDA and POD activity in the fruits were investigated. The results indicated that Polygenetic cyrtonema extract at 12.5 g·L-1 decreased the fruit decay rate by 33.3%. The contents of titratable acids, soluble sugar, and vitamin C in the treated fruits were 0.190%, 109.6 mg·g-1, and 3.7 mg·100g-1, respectively, with an increase of 4.4%, 22.7%, and 105.6%, respectively, compared to that of the control group. Meanwhile, Polygenetic cyrtonema extract at 12.5 g·L-1 could decrease the MDA accumulation and keep relatively high activity of POD in the fruits, indicating a good effect on preservation of postharvest apple fruits.
