The identification of species of Lophodermium on pines is complicated. Based on the experience from the practice in recent years and understanding on literature, the present paper gives a brief review on the classification criteria and methods for identification of the species. In addition, the major characteristics of morphology, culture, and ecology for distinguishing these fungi are discussed.
